Author: Young, Edward R.

Biography:

YOUNG, Edward R. (1798-1864: ancestry.com)

Both works were published in Providence RI though the first described a year in Savannah GA. Confusingly, there are two gravesites for Edward R. and Edward Rogers Young in Providence, both with a death date of 14 Jul. 1864 but with slightly different birthdates and completely different names of family members. The poet is almost certainly Edward Rogers Young, born in Providence on 2 Dec. 1798. The family owned a successful grocery business on the market square in Providence. He was married twice, first to Adeline Mary Jones of Savannah GA (1802-30), in 1818, and after her death to Amanda Kinnicutt Coggeshall (1812-59) in 1831. At least five of his children survived him. He was evidently a prominent member of the community, serving as Secretary of the Charitable Fuel Society, for example, for over thirty years. He was buried in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
