Biography:
Yorke, Elizabeth Scott formerly Lindsay (1763-1858: ancestry.co.uk)
The youngest daughter of James Lindsay, 5th Earl of Balcarres, and Anne (Dalrymple) Lindsay, she was born at Balcarres, Fife. Her sister was Lady Anne Barnard (q.v.). She married Philip Yorke, 3rd Duke of Hardwicke, in London in 1782; they had four sons and three daughters. Her Court of Oberon was written some decades before its 1831 publication for sale at a bazaar to benefit “the distressed Irish.” It is dedicated to Princess Victoria. She lived a secluded life after the death of her husband in 1834, and she is buried in the Yorke family vault at Wimpole. (ancestry.co.uk 7 Mar. 2019)
