WYSE, George (b 1782?: ancestry.co.uk)
Likely he was the George Wyse born to Margaret (Adie) and William Wyse in Slamannon, near Falkirk, Stirlingshire in 1782. If so, he married Elizabeth Baird in Falkirk in 1800; they had several children. Elizabeth had died by 1829 and her death is lamented in one of the poems in Original Poems. In the early to mid 1820s they lived in the Gorbals, Lanarkshire, but they returned to Stirlingshire later in the same decade. The Dedication in Poems in Several Occasions is dated from Orr’s Land, Gorbals. Verses in Original Poems indicate that he lived in Grahamston, near Falkirk, and worked as a farmer.
