Biography:

WYMAN, Oliver C. (1771-1830: ancestry.com)

The son of Mary (Hosmer) and Samuel Wyman, Oliver Cromwell Wyman was born in Burlington MA on 24 Nov. 1771. Nothing is known of his education, but he became a real-estate broker with offices on State St. in Boston and an occasional contributor to Boston newspapers and magazines. On 24 Dec. 1797 he married Nabby Hinds Reed (1779-1851) at Rutland VT; they went on to have five children of whom four grew to maturity. Wyman was one of “the four of us” who put together Whimwhams in prose and verse for publication in 1828. Some of his work was included in Kettell’s anthology in 1829. For reasons unknown, he hanged himself in his office on 16 Jan. 1830, some of the newspaper reports noting that he had nevertheless been “a respectable man” (Southern Patriot). By his will of 1829 he left all his property to his wife Nabby for her lifetime and to their daughter Frances after her death.
