Biography:
WOOD, Agnes M. (1799-1827: Selection of Scraps)
Agnes Maria Wood was baptised on 19 July 1799 at Maryport, Cumberland (now Cumbria), the eldest child of Kelsick Wood (1771-1840), a wealthy Maryport shipbuilder and shipyard owner, and his second wife Mary Inman (1772-1841), who had married in 1796. She died on 5 Aug. 1827 but had probably been ill for some time and her poem “Written in a Sick Chamber” (1824) may refer to her own illness. Her brother Wilton Wood (q.v.) commemorated her in “Lines Written on his Sister, Agnes M. Wood.” (A Selection of Scraps [1832]; ancestry.co.uk 30 Jul. 2022; Cumberland Pacquet 14 Aug. 1827) AA
