WILSON, Isaac (1772-1835: ancestry.co.uk)
He was baptised on 26 June 1772 at Eggleston, Teesdale, Durham, the second of five children of John Wilson and his wife Margaret Dent, who had married in 1770. Almost nothing is known of his early life prior to his editorship (1800-20) and later co-proprietorship (1820-32) of the Hull Advertiser, which was printed at 49 Lowgate, Hull (or Kingston upon Hull), from where he also operated as bookseller and stationer. He had originally been employed by the owner William Rawson and for many years worked alongside Rawson’s son (also William) and William Holden. As a widower, he married Jane Anthony on 17 Sept. 1808 at Holy Trinity, Kingston upon Hull. She died on 8 June 1810. The earlier marriage is not known and there are many possibilities. A further marriage after 1810 is also possible. He died on 26 Nov. 1835 at his cottage in Hessle, near Hull. (ancestry.co.uk 29 Jul. 2022; Newsam, 121-2; C. W.
