Biography:
WILLIAMS, William (1773-1847: biblicalstudies.org.uk)
Williams was minister to the congregation of the Particular Baptist chapel on Grafton Street, Soho Square, London, for whom he prepared the hymnbook listed here in 1819. The work is included on account of the unspecified “originals” in it although most of the hymns—chosen as “the most Evangelical” available in published collections, according to the author-editor--will have been old favourites. It is not certain that Williams himself composed the new hymns but it seems possible. He was still in this position in 1834 when he became one of the founding members of the London Baptist Association. Online records of the historical Baptist Quarterly supply his dates of birth and death, but his name is such a common one that it has not so far been possible to confirm them by public records. Nor has any obituary been found. (Theology on the Web, biblicalstudies.org.uk 19 June 2024; ancestry.com 19 June 2024; findmypast.com 19 June 2024) HJ
