Biography:

WILFORD, Barton (fl 1821-30)

The Lilian Bride, and Other Poems (1821) was the first and only volume of verse published by Wilford, who had been and continued to be a contributor to periodicals and annuals. The Literary Chronicle in its review described him as a “favorite correspondent” and praised his “elegant effusions.” Two of his poems appeared in eminent company in The Lotus (q.v.) in 1830. His unusual name is, however, suspiciously absent from public records, and the only newspaper reference to him is an advertisement for his book in 1821. It seems likely that it was a pseudonym.
