WHITMORE, Lucy Elizabeth Georgiana, formerly BRIDGEMAN (1792-1840: ancestry.co.uk)
She was born on 22 Jan. 1792 at Weston Park, Weston under Lizard, Staffordshire, the only daughter of Orlando Bridgeman, Earl of Bradford, and his wife, Lucy Elizabeth Byng (1766-1844), who had married at St. James’s, Piccadilly, London, in 1788. She married William Wolryche Whitmore (1787-1858), of Dudmaston Hall in the Severn Valley and a Lt.-Col. in the Shropshire militia, on 29 Jan. 1810 at St. Andrew’s, Weston under Lizard. There were no children. Family Prayers (1824) contained fourteen original hymns, with “Father, again in Jesus’ name we meet” reprinted in Rev. Edward Bickersteth’s collection of over 700 hymns, Christian Psalmody (1833). Thereafter it entered into the hymnal canon and passed into many collections. She died at Bridgnorth, Shropshire, on 17 Mar. 1840, and was buried at Quatt Malvern, Shropshire, on 26 Mar. A minor work, Sunday Reading for Very Little Boys and Girls (1827), may also be by her.
