WHITEHEAD, James Crawford (fl 1817)
His parents were Daniel Whitehead and his wife Martha Crawford who had married at St. John's, Hackney, London, on 11 Nov. 1792. He was born on 20 Aug. 1793 and baptised at St. George's, Hanover Square, London, on 5 Aug. 1803. His brother, John Crawford Whitehead (q.v.), was born on 12 Jan. 1798. James studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in about 1817 when he moved to London. With his friend and correspondent William Gardiner (q.v.) he contributed to the Lady's Magazine. His Lessons of Sadek was well received critically but he seems not to have published anything else. Nothing more is known. James Fraser (q.v.) dedicated his Pilgrimage to Craigmillar (1817) to Whitehead.
