WEGUELIN, George (1766-1858: ancestry.co.uk)

He was baptised on 19 Aug. 1766 at Saint Leonard’s, Shoreditch, the son of John Christopher Weguelin, merchant, and his second wife Elizabeth Randall, who had married in 1760. His father went bankrupt in 1762. Nothing is known of his education and his late poetic performances passed largely unnoticed. He amassed a considerable fortune as a pawnbroker, leaving an estate of around £35,000. He died, aged 92, on 1 Apr. 1858 at 6 Grafton Street,  Fitzroy Square.
