Author: Watt, John

Biography:

WATT, John (1770?-1844: Bisset)

Little information has been found. He may have been the John Watt born to Robert Watt and Birtha Marton in Linlithgow in 1770. He served as schoolmaster in Livingston, Linlithgow (West Lothian), at least until 1841. Many of the poems in his 1827 book are acrostics; one is addressed to a brother. Bisset says of the verses in his 1834 book that they are topical in being written to support the Reform Bill but “have little to recommend them to posterity.” (Alexander M. Bisset, The Poets and Poetry of Linlithgowshire [1896]) SR
