Biography:

WARNER, Effingham (1776-96: ancestry.com)

He was the son of George Warner of New York City; his mother's name may have been Magdalen. At fifteen, he formally joined the Episcopal Church ("became a communicating Member") and in the same year entered Columbia College, from where he graduated top of his class in 1795. He was renowned for his piety and intended to become a clergyman, but died after only a few days' illness of an infectious disease on 30 Sept. 1796. The posthumous selection of his writings includes a "short Sketch" of his life and character. There is a marker in his memory in St. Paul's Chapel, Manhattan.
