WALTON, Ann (1795-1822: findmypast.com)
The only known copy of the only publication by Ann Walton, “cottage girl poet,” is held at the Northamptonshire Central Library as a piece of local history. Original Pieces was printed at Harleston (Harlestone), Northants., at the time a village just to the northwest of Northampton, and the author was most probably the child baptised as Mary Ann Walton on 23 June 1795 at the church of St. Edmund King and Martyr in the village of Hardingstone just to the southeast. Her parents Ann (Walton) and Thomas Walton had married by license at Ecton, in the parish of Hardingstone Cotton End, on 5 Dec. 1793, and she was the eldest of three daughters. On 1 Jan. 1822 at Harlestone she married Thomas Faulkner of nearby Boughton, and their son Walton Faulkner was baptised on 10 Dec. 1822. On the same day, however, she was buried at St. Andrew’s, Harlestone; the child followed a week later, aged one month.
