Biography:

VINCENT, John (1777-1818: Wright)

He was the son of Thomas and Sarah Vincent of Hardwick, Devon, and was baptised on 2 June 1777 in Tavistock, Devon. He matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford, on 6 Mar. 1795, aged seventeen. He gained his BA in December 1798 and was ordained in 1800. He served as curate at St. Mewan, Cornwall, 1800-01, and at Constantine, Cornwall, 1801-14. Banns for his marriage to Mary Cudlip were read at the church in Tavistock in Nov. 1807. They were to have four children. In Feb. 1814 an auction of all their household goods was announced prior to their move to Bengal where Vincent served as chaplain to the East India Company. He died at Bengal. His other publications are sermons, including Sermons on Practical Subjects (Bengal, 1814). (W. H. K. Wright, West-country Poets [1896]; G. C.
