Biography:

VAN VECHTEN, Teunis A. (1787-1811: ancestry.com)

Born in Albany NY, he was the third of fifteen children of Abraham Van Vechten (1762-37)--an eminent lawyer, New York state senator, and sometime state attorney general--and his wife Catherine Schuyler (1766-1820), who had married in 1784. He graduated from Union College in Schenectady NY in 1806 and went on to study divinity, intending to become a clergyman, but in 1809 he was obliged to return to his family in Albany on account of ill health, and in 1811 he died of tuberculosis. He is buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands NY, along with his father and other members of their prominent family.
