Biography:
TREMENHEERE, William (1757-1838: ancestry.co.uk)
He was born on 19 Oct. 1757, and baptised on 9 Nov. at Madron, Cornwall, the eldest of seven children of William Tremenheere (1732-80), attorney, and Catherine Borlase (1733-1812), who had married at Madron in 1756. He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge (matric. 1776, BA 1779, MA 1830) and entered the church. He was usher at Oakham school (1778-85), was appointed Curate at Exton, Rutland, in 1781, and was sometime Chaplain in the Royal Navy. He succeeded his uncle William Borlase (1741-1812 ) as Vicar of Madron (1812-38). He also held the chaplaincies of Penzance and Morvah. He never married. He died at Madron on 26 Jun. 1838. In addition to the works listed here, he translated the first book of The Iliad of Homer (1792) and published celebratory sermons on George III’s recovery in 1789 and the coronation of George IV in 1821.
