TOUGH, David (1868-1843: scotlandspeople.gov.uk)
He was born at Edinburgh to Margaret (Smith) and George Tough, but nothing is known about his education. At the time of his marriage in 1818 to Margaret Swinton, he was identified as a painter. Given his age and situation, it is likely he was the David Tough who served as an Edinburgh city deacon in the 1810s. David and Margaret Tough are listed in the 1841 Census.
