TOUGH, David (1768-1843: scotlandspeople.gov.uk)
He was born on 28 Apr. 1768 at Edinburgh to Margaret (Smith) and George Tough, a wright, and baptised on 4 May. Nothing is known about his education but in 1817 he is recorded as being a wright in Edinburgh. On 1 June 1818 in Edinburgh he married Margaret Swinton whose father was also a wright. Confusingly the marriage record identifies Tough as a painter. Given his age and situation, it is likely he was the David Tough who served as an Edinburgh city deacon in the 1810s. David and Margaret Tough are listed as living at 26 Rankeilor Street in the parish of St. Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, in the 1841 Census. Tough died at the same address on 25 Nov. 1843 and was buried four days later. (ancestry.co.uk 26 Nov. 2020; findmypast.co.uk 26 Nov. 2020, 17 Oct. 2025; scotlandspeople.gov.uk 26 Nov. 2020) SR
