Author: Thorn, Romaine Joseph

Biography:

THORN, Romaine Joseph (c. 1764-1850: ancestry.co.uk)

Although a very prolific author, he has left few biographical traces. He lived in both Cork and Bristol where he died on 18 Aug. 1850, aged 86. There are two records of marriage, both in Cork: one in 1806 to Mary Anne Watkins, and the other in 1811 to Mary Anne Daunt (d 1872). He had at least one child, William Henry Romaine Thorn, who in 1853 was arrested and convicted of theft; the trial was widely reported in newspapers. Romaine Thorn’s death notice describes him as having been a clerk to Henry Cruger, MP for Bristol 1774-80 and 1784-90. Subsequently Thorn was employed at a mercantile house.
