Biography:

THOMAS, Daniel (1779-1847: ancestry.com)

Although there are some discrepancies in the record, he appears to have been the son of Daniel and Thankful (Barrows) Thomas of Middleborough (or Middleboro) MA and to have been born in Middleborough. (The birth was registered in Abington MA; the detailed death notice declares him to have been a native of Middleborough.) He graduated from Rhode Island College--later Brown University--in 1803 and became the pastor of the Second Congregational Church of Abington, where he remained the rest of his life. Early in his ministry he was engaged to marry a local woman but her state of health made it impossible for her to marry, so for 37 years they remained loyal friends and he never married. His other publications are sermons and a pamphlet in a dispute about doctrine. He died in Abington and is buried in Mount Vernon Cemetery there.
