Biography:

TEMPLEMAN, Richard Abraham (1802-41: ancestry.co.uk)

He was baptised on 17 Nov. 1802 at Merriott, near Crewkerne, Somerset, the son of the Rev. John Templeman (1750-1835), perpetual curate of nearby Lopen (1783-1835), and his wife Prudence Abraham (1769-1853), who had married in 1797. He was educated at Sherborne and Trinity College Cambridge (pensioner 1817, matric. 1818, LLB 1824) and then entered the church. He obtained the living of Little Sodbury about 15 miles northwest of Bristol but seems to have spent most of his later life back in Somerset. He married Sophia Draper (1807-32), the daughter of a naval captain, on 8 Apr. 1828 at St. Mary’s, Bathwick, Somerset. They had a daughter, Sophia Frances, and a son, Richard Draper (who also entered the church). Sophia Templeman died in Aug. 1832 probably due to childbirth complications. He died on 6 Mar. 1841 at Merriott. Although he attempted the Romantic tale in verse several times--in "Conrad," "The Moor," and "The Maniac Wanderer"--his penchant for occasional verse (Lines in Albums, Lines Written . . . , To a Lady . . . , etc.) was somewhat at odds with the demands of the longer genre and he produced no further volumes. (ancestry.co.uk 14 Sept. 2021; CCEd 14 Sept. 2021; Bath Chronicle 17 July 1828, 30 Apr. 1835, 25 Mar. 1841) AA
