Biography:
TAYLOR, William Cooper (1773-1859: ancestry.com)
He was born in Bristol, the son of Jane and Joseph Taylor. He graduated from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford (AM 1799) and went into the church, being ordained as deacon in 1797 and as priest in 1803. He served parishes in Kent (1803-12) and in the East Midlands (from 1812). In The Seasons in England (1806), his preface makes the usual claims of modesty--that the book would not have been published but for the insistence of friends--but promises more if his work is well received. No more appeared, and there is no recorded extant copy of the UK edition, only of the American one of a year later. In 1832 he married Elizabeth Prior at Bratton in Wiltshire; no record of children has been found. He died at Barnes (then in Surrey) and is buried in St. Mary's churchyard.
