Author: Taylor, W.

Biography:

TAYLOR, W. (fl 1814)

There is no extant copy recorded of Parnassian Wild Shrubs; consisting of Odes, The Moralist, a Series of Poetical Essays; Sonnets, and Miscellaneous Pieces (1814). Two short reviews in MR and CR witness to its existence and give some evidence of its character as “sentimental” “light reading” (CR) with “unexceptionable” though not very good verse (MR). Neither reviewer appears to have known the identity of the author, and it seems most improbable that it was William Taylor of Norwich (q.v.), who had been a prolific reviewer for MR among other periodicals since 1793 and was widely respected as the best translator of recent German literature in the country. (CR 3rd ser. 6 [1814], 93; MR 74 [1814], 435-6)
