Biography:
TAIT, Thomas (fl 1818)
His title page identifies him as of Belford, Northumberland. The book is dedicated to the Rev. Andrew Sharp, who had charge of the parish of Bamburgh. Almost certainly he was the Thomas Tait, son of Thomas, who was born in Belford on 29 Apr. 1803, and baptised in the Presbyterian church on 2 May. This would mean that Bamburgh Castle was composed and published when he was very young. On 24 June 1840 he married Jane Orde, also of Belford. The 1841 Census records them as living in the High Street, Belford, with an infant daughter. Tait is described as being of independent means. By 1861 they had six children. Tait died at Belford in 1871 although no record has been located. (ancestry.co.uk 2 Dec. 2020, 9 Oct. 2025; Berwick Advertiser 27 June 27 1840; findmypast.co.uk 9 Oct. 2025) SR
