Biography:
SWINNY, Jane (1778-1860)
She was baptised on 7 Jan. 1778 at Gravesend, the daughter of Henry Swiney (sic), an Innkeeper, and his wife Elizabeth Pullen. They had at least five children. She commemorated the death of her father and the deaths of her sisters Elizabeth and Jane in her Collection of Poems (1792). Her brother Henry became a revered schoolmaster in Milton, Gravesend, and she lived near him and probably assisted in the school. She died, unmarried, 28 Sept. 1860, aged 82 years, leaving a modest estate to her nephew Henry Hutchison Swinny, who had been educated at St. Paul’s and Trinity College Cambridge.
