Biography:

SWINEY, J. M. (fl 1781)

As the title page of his book states, he was the son of Eugune Swiney, printer in Cork. Eugene Swiney established Cork’s first newspaper, the Corke Journal, in 1769. When he died on 12 Nov. 1777 his printing business was taken over by his son. Nothing more is known. The Juvenile Muse has a subscription list which includes men with the surnames Swiney, Sweeny, and M’Sweeny. One of the poems is “A New Poem on the Art of Printing.” (Saunders’s Newsletter 14 Nov. 1777) SR
