Author: Sutcliffe, E.
Biography:
SUTCLIFFE, E. (fl 1790)
In the preface to his only known publication, A Sketch on Mutability . . . in Blank Verse, which was published in Halifax, Yorkshire, in or before 1790, Sutcliffe refreshingly confesses that his motive for venturing into print is vanity: he wants recognition. He maintains that it is unlikely that he will try again, and reveals that he is a weaver of limited education (“very little more than the common alphabet”). Nothing more has been found out about him.
