Author: Sturtevant, Peleg
Biography:
STURTEVANT, Peleg (b 1798)
pseudonym: Byron Whippoorwill, Esq.
He was born in Warren CT to Lucy and Isaac Sturtevant. His father (d 1816) was a printer who eventually settled in Worcester MA. Peleg followed in his footsteps, earning a living as a printer and publishing his own works. His imprint appears in Hudson NY in 1825, in Bloomfield PA in 1836, and in Harrisburg PA in 1839. In the early 1830s he married a woman born in Pennsylvania in 1811 whose first name was Sarah; they had two sons, Isaac and Peleg, born in 1836 and 1840 respectively. The mother and two boys appear in the 1850 Census as resident in Liverpool PA. The father's last printing work dates from 1839 and it seems probable that he died not long after that.
