Biography:

STURTEVANT, Peleg (1800-39: ancestry.com)

pseudonym: Byron Whippoorwill, Esq.

He was born in Warren CT to Lucy and Isaac Sturtevant probably in Mar. 1800, and was baptised on 4 Jan. 1801. His father (d 1816) was a printer who eventually settled in Worcester MA. Peleg followed in his footsteps, earning a living as a printer and publishing his own works. His imprint appears in Hudson NY in 1825, in Bloomfield PA in 1836, and in Harrisburg PA in 1839. On 21 Sept. 1834 he married Sarah Kline at Carlisle PA; they had two sons, Isaac and Peleg, born in 1836 and 1840 respectively. The mother and two boys appear in the 1850 Census as resident in Liverpool PA but the father's last printing work dates from 1839. Records from the Salem Reformed Church indicate that he died at Harrisburg on 26 Aug. that year.
