STOPFORD, Octavia, formerly MANTLE (1783-1857: ancestry.co.uk)
She was born on 10 Apr. 1783 at Lynn Regis, the daughter of the Rev. William Mantle, Rector of Syderstone, Norfolk, and his wife Octavia Huntington. She married Lieut. William Stopford, R. N., the son of the Rev. William Stopford, Rector of Wyham, Lincolnshire, on 5 Jan. 1815 at Sculcoates, Yorkshire. They moved to Scarborough with his family to improve his health but, as she records in Sketches (1826), he died there in Aug. 1823. She died of bronchitis at Askern, Doncaster, Yorkshire, on 6 May 1857, aged 74.
