Author: Stevens, George Lionel
Biography:
STEVENS, George Lionel (fl 1834)
There is only one publication recorded under his name, the drama of The Patriot, which was advertised in the Boston newspapers in Dec. 1834 and Jan. 1835. In the Dedication, dated from the "United States," the author expresses his admiration for American enterprise but in a way that suggests he was not a native American. It is possible but not certain that in 1871 he was the New York supporter of this name who took up the cause of Laura D. Fair at the time of her first trial for murder in San Francisco, but if so, he was not involved in the retrial that took place the following year in New York. (Boston Daily Advertiser 17 Dec. 1834; The World [New York] 29 April 1872)
