Biography:
STERRY, Abby H. (1797-1824: Norwich Courier)
Her paternal grandmother had been Abigail Holmes but she was baptised Abby Holmes Sterry in Norwich CT on 23 Aug. 1797, one of the seven children of Mary (Norman) and Consider Sterry who survived infancy. Her father was a teacher who published textbooks in mathematics, but he died in 1817, leaving the family struggling. Effusions was her contribution to supporting them all. In 1822 she married George Tisdale Adams, also of Norwich and later a member of the state militia, but she died less than two years later, on 25 Aug. 1824. Her husband remarried in 1826.
