STEELE, Sarah formerly MANLY, later ARMSTRONG (fl 1816)
Although no precise records have been found for Sarah Steele, a cousin published some information about her in N&Q. She was born in Ireland, the daughter of Ruth (Miller) and Moses Manly of Tullamore. She was twice married: first, to Captain Laurence St. George Steele of Rathbride, Co. Kildare and, second, to Dr. William Armstrong of Rathangan. She had no children. Some of her poems were published in Dublin newspapers under the name “Emma.” Her date of death is not known but when Dr. Armstrong died in 1870, he had been a widower for many years. Eva has an extensive subscription list; her mother is listed along with what are probably some of Sarah's siblings. Thomas Moore (q.v.) was also a subscriber. (N&Q [1876], 271) SR
