Author: SQUIRREL, Harriet

Biography:

SQUIRREL, Harriet, formerly Watson (1761-1818: ancestry.co.uk)

She was born on 3 Apr. 1761 in London to James and Mary Watson and was baptised at St. Martin-in-the-Fields on 12 Apr. (as Harrot). She married Richard Squirrel, an apothecary with premises in Soho, on 15 Jan. 1781 in the church of Saint Gregory by Saint Paul in the City of London. Harriet was a minor at the time. He was probably the Richard Squirrel who was baptised at Towcester, Northamptonshire, on 9 Jan. 1750. His name appears in the 1809 court files of the Old Bailey as a victim of an intended robbery--although the accused was found not guilty and both men seem to have been quite intoxicated at the time of the alleged attack. Harriet Squirrel died in June 1818 and was buried at St. Martin-in-the-Fields on 14 June. Original Novels, Poems, and Essays (1790) seems to have been her only book and it was offered for sale at her home, 7 Denmark Street, Soho. No copy has been located.
