SHERSTON, Peter (1745-1820: ancestry.co.uk)
He was probably privately baptised in 1745 (or earlier) at the family home of Stobury/Stoberry Hill, Wells, Somerset, the eldest son of Dodington Sherston and his wife Bridget Tucker who had married at Kilmington, Devon, on 8 July 1742. He matriculated at Lincoln College, Oxford, on 10 July 1762, but does not appear to have proceeded to a degree. (His brother William Tucker Sherston [1750-70] also went to Lincoln College but died before taking a degree.) He married Margaret Isabella Burrell (1750-1779), only daughter of Peter Burrell, a Leicester physician, on 11 Nov. 1771 at Barrow upon Scar, Leicester. They had a daughter. He then married Margaret Strangeways (1756-1795), daughter of Thomas Strangeways of Shapwick, on 10 July 1780, at Wells Cathedral. They had two daughters and a son. He died on 14 Aug. 1820 and was also buried in the Cathedral. Both his volumes of poems were published for the benefit of hospitals in Bath.
