Biography:

SHAW, Lawrence Ormerod (1789-1851: ancestry.co.uk)

He was baptised on 25 May 1789 at St. Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, one of at least nine children of Lawrence Shaw, attorney, and his wife Mary Bulcock, who had married at Burnley in 1781. There is no record of his education and he may have been apprenticed attorney to his father. He was later solicitor and clerk to the magistrates at Haslingden. He married Ellen Pollard on 21 Mar. 1815 at St. Peter’s, Burnley. They had at least six children. She died in 1842. He issued a second, enlarged edition of The Duel, The Battle of Waterloo, and Other Poems (Haslingden 1836) but he never achieved much success as an author and later was remembered as the uncle of Richard Shaw (1825-76),  Burnley’s first MP. He died on 9 Dec. 1851 and was buried at St. James, Haslingden, on 13 Dec. (ancestry.co.uk 15 Nov. 2022; findmypast.co.uk 15 Nov. 2022; Manchester Times 17 Dec. 1851) AA
