Biography:
SANDERSON, Stephen (1790-1843: ancestry.co.uk)
He was baptised on 9 Oct. 1790 at Northleach, Gloucester, the younger of two sons of Rev. Alfred Sanderson (1753-1802) and his wife Charlotte Poyntz (1768-1847), who had married in 1788. He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge (matric. 1813, Scholar 1813-1820, BA 1818, MA 1825) and entered the church but his clerical career is not recorded on CCEd. He married Charlotte Maria Arnold (1797-1858), the daughter of Henry Arnold, Vicar of Longstock, Hants., on 18 Oct. 1821 at Monk-Sherborne, Hants. They went to live in Sydenham, Kent, and had a daughter and a son. He may have held a clerical position there or possibly have been “without cure of souls.” He died at 36 Edgware Road, London, on 22 Jun. 1843 and was buried at the family plot at St. Peter and St. Paul, Bromley, Kent. The work listed here consists of his poetry and poems by his uncle Thomas Sanderson (1759-1829, q.v.) and his brother Alfred Poyntz Sanderson (1789-1811, q.v.). He died in a fire in 1829. His brother died of a “ruptured blood vessel” while at Pembroke, Oxford, leaving among his papers two admired poems which were printed in newspapers (Bombay Gazette 11 September 1816).
