Author: Roberts, Mary Ann
Biography:
ROBERTS, Mary Ann (fl 1830-1841)
In addition to her 1830 book of Poems, published in London by William Pickering, “Miss M. A. Roberts” contributed several poems in 1838 and 1841 to Blackwood’s Lady’s Magazine of the Belles Lettres, Music, Fine Arts, Drama. Writing in 1838, a newspaper reviewer praised her “beautiful lines.” She might be the Miss M. A. Roberts who in 1825 subscribed to Poems by Richard Jones (q.v.). No other reference to her has been discovered and, except that she had several brothers, nothing else is known about her. The Cambridge University Library catalogue gives her forenames as Mary Ann, but no source is stated. (Google Books 4 Mar. 2024; Morning Advertiser, 4 Aug. 1838) JC
