Author: Rimmert, Jane

Biography:

RIMMERT, Jane, properly Rimmer (fl. 1825)

“Jane Rimmert” appears as author on the title page of Recollections and Poems (1825). Almost certainly the author’s actual surname was Rimmer. The name Rimmert is close to non-existent in contemporary records. Moreover, the author of Recollections and Poems states in a brief preface that two of her stories (sic) first appeared in Lady’s Magazine. A “Miss Jane Rimmer [of] Formby, near Liverpool,” contributed an enigma, “A Charade,” to the 1825 edition of Lady’s Magazine. Two of that woman’s relatives also contributed to the journal, Thomas Rimmer, a schoolmaster at Standish, and John Rimmer of Liverpool, a beer merchant. Identifying her more certainly may be difficult. A dozen persons named Jane Rimmer were baptized in Lancashire between 1770 and 1805, six in Formby alone.
