Biography:
RIDSDALE, George Twisleton (fl 1799)
Surprisingly little information has been located. He served in the Irish army, becoming captain in the 54th Regiment of Foot in 1755 and major in 1772. He resigned in 1775 and his name with that of his wife, Elizabeth, appears in the Irish army pension lists. He had at least one son, also called George Twisleton Ridsdale, who served in the Irish army. The dedication to his Ode is dated from New Ross, Wexford, and many of the subscribers are from Ross. Likely he was connected to the Twisleton family of the Barons of Say and Sele; a subscriber is the Hon. and Rev. Thomas James Twisleton, later Archdeacon of Colombo and brother to the 11th Baron.
