RIDDEL, John (1761?-1819: ancestry.co.uk)
His surname is also given as Riddell. He was a surgeon who graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1783. He was likely born in Glasgow and may have been the John Riddel born on 22 Jan. 1761 to William Riddel and his wife Isobell Steel. Glasgow directories show him living in the Saltmarket 1776-80. In 1787 he is shown to be living with his mother in Princes Street, Glasgow. No other information has been found. The poems from Pastorals (1776) are reprinted in Original Poems (1780).
