Biography:

RIBBANS, Rebecca, formerly EAST (1795-1821: findmypast.co.uk)

She was the youngest of at least six daughters of William East and his wife Ann Day. There is no baptism record. Her father was postmaster at Lavenham, Suffolk, for over 50 years. She married Frederic Henry Ribbans, schoolmaster of the Lavenham Boarding School, on 31 Dec. 1818 at Lavenham. She died 13 Aug. 1821, aged 27, and was buried at St. Peter and St. Paul, Lavenham. Her husband edited two works after her death: Lavenham Church (1822) and Effusions of Genius (1829). Two poems, "The Workhouse" and "The Postman," are original poetic records of early nineteenth-century English village life.
