REYNOLDS, Tertius (1800-63: ancestry.com)
The Rev. Tertius Reynolds, V. D. M. (Verbi Dei Minister, "Minister of the Word of God"), was born in Warren CT, the son of Jonathan and Martha (Sutliff) Reynolds. After graduating from Amherst College he studied theology at the newly founded Auburn Seminary in New York City, and at the age of 25 began his career as a missionary preacher for the Congregationalist Church. In 1829 he married Eliza Talbott; the couple had five children. For some years he preached in different parts of New York State, then settled as pastor of a church in Fairfax VT from 1839 to 1844, when he retired on the grounds of ill health. He remained in Fairfax until 1855 but then purchased land in Olmsted County, Minnesota, where he lived for the rest of his life. He is buried in Pine Island MN.
