Searches for this author are complicated by the possible variant spellings of his surname. No records for anyone of this name in Carmarthen or Carmarthenshire have been located although Joseph Reade, MD, must have been a prominent member of his community. Other than his book which survives in just one known copy at Cardiff University, the only sighting of Reade is in two contributions on his experiments with light to volumes five and seven of the Philosophical Magazine and Annals of Chemistry in 1829.
