Biography:
PROUDLOCK, Lewis (1802-1826: findmypast.co.uk)
He is not to be confused with a later Lewis Proudlock of Elsdon, Northumberland, who became known as the “Border minstrel.” That Lewis Proudlock's 1865 Poems and Songs includes a dirge to the earlier poet of the same name. He was the son of Lewis and Margaret Proudlock and was baptised on 16 July 1802 in Rothbury, Northumberland. He died on 8 Feb. 1826 in Rochester, Northumberland, and was buried on 11 Feb.; a death notice states that he was formerly a teacher at Great Tosson, near Rothbury.
