Author: Pringle, James

Biography:

PRINGLE, James (fl 1821)

He spent his early years in Eskdale, but little other certain information has come to light. His book is dedicated to Thomas Lawrie, jun., and was published by subscription; the preface states that he is giving his subscribers a bonus of twenty poems over what was promised and the title page notes that some had previously been published elsewhere. He was a patriot whose poems lament emigration from Scotland to America. Two poems at the end of the collection are not by him and they are signed only with initials—“T.L.” and “R.A.”.
