POWELL, Calvin (1764-1839: ancestry.com)
He was born in Lebanon CT, son of Mary (Davis) and Rowland Powell. His first marriage was to Mary Gray in 1785 and produced one child, but his wife died--perhaps in childbirth--and in 1787 he married again. The second marriage, to Spedia (or Speedy) Davis, brought twelve more children, at least nine of whom grew to be adults. The couple seem to have farmed, first in Strafford VT and then in Livonia NY. (The last birth recorded for the family in Strafford was 1794, the remaining children being natives of Livonia.) The volume of poems and hymns was his only publication. (ancestry.com 5 Jul. 2020)
