Author: Porter, Sarah
Biography:
PORTER, Sarah, formerly MARTYN (c.1746-1831: death notice)
Little is known of her early years. In 1767 she married a physician, John Porter, of Plymouth NH, and they had five children together. Kettell included extracts from her work in his Specimens of American Poetry (1829)--exceptional recognition for a woman who published only one title. She died at the home of her daughter and her son-in-law Elijah Paine (US Senator and Judge) in Williamstown VT.
