POND, Charles (1809-28: Memoirs)
His full name was Charles Hobby Pond, Jr. His father was Lieutenant-Governor (1750-53) and then for a short time Governor (1753-4) of Connecticut. He and his wife Catharine (or Catherine) Dickinson lived in Milford CT and had seven children but only the one son. After a precocious youth, he gave up writing poetry at 16. He entered Yale in 1826 but died two years later of what sounds like tuberculosis. (Memoirs; Dexter) HJ
