POND, Charles (1809-28: Memoirs)
His full name was Charles Hobby Pond, Jr. His father was Lieutenant-Governor (1750-53) and then for a short time Governor (1753-4) of Connecticut. He and his wife Catharine (or Catherine) Dickinson lived in Milford CT and had seven children but only the one son. After a precocious youth, he gave up writing poetry at 16. He entered Yale in 1826 but died at Milford on 9 June 1828 of what sounds like tuberculosis, and was buried in the Milford cemetery. (Memoirs; Dexter; ancestry.com 2 October. 2025) HJ
