PERRIN, William (1793-1824: ancestry.com)
Not to be confused with another Rev. William Perrin (1792-1824) who was born and died in Ireland (and to whom Hebrew Canticles is sometimes wrongly attributed), this one was born and died in Berlin VT. His parents Mary (Talcott) and Zachariah Perrin sent him to Middlebury College (Class of 1812), after which he became a minister in the Congregational Church. He preached in various places in Vermont, New York, and Pennsylvania. At an unspecified date he married Fanny Thompson. Poor health led him to accept a position as Pastor in South Carolina for three years, but he did not recover and returned to Berlin, where he died. Besides the two volumes of poetry listed here, he is said to have produced a third, Eloida, of which there is no recorded extant copy and no corroborating evidence from reviews, so it may never have seen publication.
