Biography:

PERKINS, Lafayette (1786-1874: ancestry.com)

Born in Boston, he graduated MD from Harvard in 1814. His parents were Abigail (Cox) and William Perkins. Even before graduation, it seems, he saw active service as an army surgeon on board the brig-of-war Argus in 1813 and shared in the spoils of captured British ships. He established a medical practice in Weld ME in 1815; in 1817 he married Dorcas Abbott, with whom he had six children. He was the town's representative at a Constitutional Convention in Portland ME in 1819. In 1836 he took his practice to Farmington ME where he stayed for the rest of his life.
